McClendonA dispute over a woman has lead to one man being arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. According to Bladen County Chief Deputy Larry Guyton, Michael McClendon, 32, of Elizabethtown,  was involved in an incident on March 17 on  NC Highway 210 near Garland with the victim.

Guyton said James Correia, 34, of Kelly and McClendon were both seeing the same girl and Correia was at her house talking to her in her yard and McClendon drove by several times.

“Correia left and while driving down the road, McClendon forced his vehicle off the road,” said Guyton.

Guyton said that Correia got out of his vehicle and was standing beside it. McClendon went down the road, turned around and came back and struck Correia with his vehicle pinning him between the two vehicles. Guyton said that Correia managed to get away and drove to Garland and called 911 where he was transported to Sampson County Hospital and treated for a broken leg.

McClendon was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was to have a first appearance hearing today in Bladen District Court, said Guyton.
