Whiteville rallied for 7 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to defeat Bladen County 12-3 Wednesday night in the championship game of the District 2 Coach-Pitch Tournament at Tabor City.

Bladen County had carried a 3-1 lead into the fourth inning. “We played really well and had the lead until the bottom of the fourth,” said Bladen Coach Joseph Russ. “Whiteville hit some balls deep to the outfield in that inning.”

Jonah Bryan cracked a lead-off single in the Bladen first inning, but was forced out on Aiden Russ’ fielder’s choice. Conner Monroe blasted a double that scored Russ, and Monroe scored later in the inning for a 2-0 Bladen lead.

Richard Severine smacked a second-inning single for Bladen County and sprinted home when Chason Harris walloped a double.

Bryan batted 3-3 to lead the Bladen hitters. Russ reached base 3 times, and Cade Allen and Monroe were both 2-3. Hunter Hester also reached base twice for Bladen County.

Harris and Monroe slammed the run-scoring doubles, and Severine, Emmanuel Drew, and Neveah Singletary connected for one hit each.

Bladen County, the runners-up in District 2, will receive a berth in the North Carolina State Coach-Pitch Tournament at Pembroke and will play their opening game at 12:30 on Saturday, July 4th.
