WHITEVILLE – Riegelwood exploded for ten runs in the top of the sixth inning to snap a 5-5 tie and defeat Bladen County 15-5 in the opening round of the District 2 Dixie Youth Baseball Minors Tournament. Five Riegelwood hits, 3 walks and 3 Bladen errors produced the ten runs.

Riegelwood built an early 2-0 lead, before Bladen rallied with five runs in the third inning. Jackie Combs drilled a double to rightfield, Kaleb Gaddy walked, and Sai’quan Leach belted a single to right that scored Combs, and an error on the play plated Gaddy and Leach.

Jackson Pait and Clayton Moore drew walks. Weston Hilburn knocked in Pait with a single, and Moore scored on an error to put Bladen County 5-2.

Riegelwood scored a run in the fourth and tied the game 5-5 with two runs in the fifth.

Hilburn batted 2-3 with a run batted in. Combs doubled and scored a run. Leach singled in a run and scored a run. Pait, Moore and Gaddy scored one run each.

Hunter Hester started on the mound for Bladen County and struck out 8 batters. Hester was relieved by Pait and Jonah Bryan.

Bladen County will play Whiteville Sunday at 6 p.m. in an elimination game.
