The Elizabethtown All-Stars rolled to a 17-3 lead and eventual 23-13 victory over Lumberton American Friday night in the opening round of the District 9 Coach-Pitch (Class AA) Tournament at Fairmont.

Nolan Tatum slammed a double to highlight a 4-run first inning for Elizabethtown. Lumberton answered with 3 runs in the home half of the first.

Tyler Lewis and Davion Lewis walloped doubles to key a 7-run second inning that propelled the winners to an 11-3 lead.

Connor Smith blasted a double as Elizabethtown stretched the lead to 17-3 with 6 runs in the third inning. Lumberton American sliced the margin to 17-9 with 6 runs in the home third.

Ryan Dove hammered a triple to account for the lone Elizabethtown run in the fourth as the lead grew to 18-9.

Chase Butler smashed a double to spark a 5-run fifth inning for Elizabethtown that widened the gap to 23-9.

Butler and Smith both batted 4-4 with a double each to lead the winners’ attack. Dove tripled and finished 3-3 at the plate. Teammates Davion Lewis and Tony Todd were both a perfect 3-3 at the plate. Davion Lewis also had a double.

Tatum and Tyler Lewis both batted 3-4 with a double each for Elizabethtown. Teammates Nene Ward, Marcus Williams, Colton Daly and Zach Sholar connected for 2 hits each for the winners. Gabe Cashwell cracked the other Elizabethtown hit.

Elizabethtown will play Lumberton National tonight (Saturday) at 7:30 in a winners bracket game.
