Dixie Youth BaseballLUMBERTON – Elizabethtown advanced to Thursday’s championship game with a 15-3 victory over West Robeson National Wednesday night in the District 9 Dixie Youth Baseball Coach-Pitch Tournament.

Elizabethtown, the only unbeaten team remaining in the tournament, will play West Robeson American at 6 p.m. Thursday. A West Robeson American win would force a second championship game between the two teams at 7:30 Thursday.

The winners jumped in front with a trio of first inning runs. Devante Tatum slammed a double, and Ryker Strickland knocked him in with a single. Tyler Eason walloped a triple that plated Strickland, and Cade Rogers belted a single that scored Eason.

Seth Faircloth and Jag Gooden started the second inning with singles. Javonte Smith smashed a double that scored Faircloth, and Gunner Lewis knocked in Gooden with a single. Omar Powell cracked a single that scored Smith, and Lewis and Powell circled the bases when the ball was misplayed by the defense.

Elizabethtown blew the game open with 7 runs in the third. Brady Marlowe clobbered a triple and scored on Rogers’ fielder’s choice. Cooper Long and Faircloth smacked singles, and both of them scored when Fox Sutton pounded a triple.

Gooden drove in Sutton with a single, and Smith and Lewis followed with singles that plated Gooden. Powell delivered a single that scored Smith, and Tatum drove in Lewis with a single that grew the lead to 15-0.

Eason slugged 2 triples and batted 3-3 with a run scored and a run batted in to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Smith finished 2-2 at the plate with a double, an rbi and 2 runs scored. Faircloth batted 2-2 with 2 runs scored. Lewis was 2-2 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored.

Gooden batted 2-2 with 2 runs scored and an rbi. Tatum finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, a run scored and an rbi. Powell batted 2-3 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored. Sutton tripled home 2 runs and scored one. Marlowe tripled and scored a run.

Strickland, Rogers, and Long connected for one hit each. Long and Strickland scored runs, and Rogers drove in 2 runs.
