LUMBERTON – Elizabethtown rolled to a 20-4 victory over Red Springs Saturday in the opening round of the District 9 Dixie Youth Baseball Coach-Pitch Tournament.

Omar Powell lashed a double to left to begin the Elizabethtown first inning and dashed home when Devance Tatum followed with a single.

Seth Faircloth reached base on an error to start the Elizabethtown second and raced home when Fox Sutton slammed a double. Jag Gooden whacked a single, and Javonte Smith drove in Sutton with a single. Gunner Lewis swatted a single that scored Gooden.

Fielder’s choices by Powell and Tatum retired Smith and Lewis, before Strickland’s single loaded the bases. Tyler Eason blasted a grand-slam home run that boosted the lead to 8-0.

Brady Marlowe clobbered a triple to begin the Elizabethtown third inning. Cade Rogers walloped a home run that scored Marlowe. Cooper Long reached base on an error, and Faircloth rapped a single. Sutton pounded a triple that plated Long and Faircloth.

Gooden plated Sutton with a single, and Smith, Lewis and Powell reached base on errors that scored Gooden and Smith and grew the Elizabethtown lead to 15-1.

Tatum reached base on an error, and Strickland smacked a single to start the Elizabethtown fourth inning. Eason ripped a double that scored Tatum. Marlowe smashed a single that scored Strickland and Eason. Rogers and Long followed with singles that scored Marlowe.

Faircloth drove in Rogers with a single that boosted the margin to 20-1.

Rogers batted 3-3 with a 2-run homer, a double and 2 runs scored. Eason clobbered a home run and a double, scored twice and drove in five runs. Marlowe finished 2-3 at the plate with a triple, 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored.

Sutton turned in a 2-3 game that included a double, a triple and 2 rbi’s. Strickland batted 2-3 and scored twice. Gooden was also 2-3 with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Faircloth batted 2-3 with an rbi and 2 runs scored.

Powell doubled and scored twice. Tatum, Long, Smith and Lewis added one hit each. Tatum scored twice, and Long and Smith scored one run each. Tatum, Long, Smith and Lewis drove in one run each.

Elizabethtown advances to a winner’s bracket game Monday night against the winner of Sunday’s West Robeson American and West Robeson National game.
