ELIZABETHTOWN – Carson Gooden and Britt Sasser combined to pitch a no-hitter Saturday as Elizabethtown defeated West Robeson National 13-0 in the opening round of the District 9 Dixie Youth Baseball Majors Tournament.
Gooden worked the first two innings on the mound, and Sasser relieved and pitched the final two innings for the winners.
Elizabethtown exploded for eleven runs in the second inning. Parker Greene ripped a double to rightfield, and Hunter Smith laced a single to centerfield. After Britt Sasser walked to load the bases, Torreon Graham delivered a single that scored Greene and Smith.
Kelec Autry reached base on an error as Sasser scored. Elijah Cain beat out an infield hit, and Darius Williamson and Hunter Elks drew walks to force home Graham and Autry. Jake Futrell smashed a double to centerfield that scored Cain and Williamson.
Gooden followed with a single that plated Elks, and Lee Barnes reached base on an error that scored Futrell. After Smith walked, Jacob Nixon slammed a double to left-centerfield that scored Gooden and Barnes for an 11-0 lead.
Graham reached base on an error to begin the Elizabethtown third inning. Williamson walked, and Elks drove in both runners with a 2-out hit.
Gooden batted 2-2 with a run batted in and a run scored to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Futrell doubled home 2 runs and scored a run. Greene doubled and scored a run. Nixon doubled home 2 runs.
Elks, Smith, Graham and Cain added one hit each to the winners’ attack. Graham and Williamson scored 2 runs each, and Cain, Autry, Sasser, Smith, Barnes and Elks scored one run each. Elks knocked in 3 runs. Graham drove in 2 runs, and Williamson had an rbi.
