ELIZABETHTOWN –Zack Sholar and Mason Smith combined to pitch a shutout Sunday that lifted Elizabethtown to an 10-0 victory over West Robeson National in an elimination game in the District 9 Dixie Youth Baseball Minors Tournament.

Sholar pitched the first three innings, and Smith relieved and worked the final two innings on the mound.

Elizabethtown grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Sholar and Torrean Cogdell drew walks to begin the inning. Tyler Lewis knocked in Sholar with a single, and Jackson Smith and Coley Sasser drew walks to force home Cogdell.

Davion Lewis smashed a double that scored Jackson Smith and Sasser. C. J. McCracken slammed a double that scored Davion Lewis.

Easton Bostic belted a second inning single and scored on Cogdell’s single to pad the Elizabethtown lead to 6-0.

McCracken and Sholar were hit by pitches to start the Elizabethtown fourth inning. Tyler Lewis smacked a single that scored McCracken to push the lead to 7-0.

Elizabethtown ended the game on the mercy rule with 3 runs in the fifth inning. Sasser led off the inning with a single, and Davion Lewis clubbed a double that scored Sasser. McCracken walked, and Sholar walloped a double that scored Davion Lewis and McCracken.

Tyler Lewis batted a perfect 2-2 with 2 runs batted in to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Davion Lewis finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, 3 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. McCracken scored 2 runs and doubled home another. Sholar doubled home 2 runs and scored one.

Cogdell, Sasser and Bostic added one hit each. Sasser scored twice, and Bostic, Jackson Smith, and Cogdell scored one run each. Cogdell and Sasser drove in one run each.

Elizabethtown will play Lumberton Monday at 6 p.m. in another elimination game.
