ELIZABETHTOWN–A 5-run fifth inning rally propelled West Robeson American to a 10-8 victory over Elizabethtown Saturday in the opening round of the District 9 Dixie Youth Baseball Minors Tournament.

Tyler Lewis walked, stole second base and dashed home on Mason Smith’s first-inning single to give Elizabethtown an early lead. West Robeson pulled even with a run in the home first.

Elizabethtown went back in front with 3 runs in the second inning. Coley Sasser singled, and Jayce Hatcher walked. Easton Bostic hammered a double to centerfield that scored Sasser and Hatcher. Gavin Elks knocked in Bostic with a single to pad the lead to 4-1.

West Robeson trimmed the margin to 4-3, but Elizabethtown answered with 4 runs in the fourth to go up 8-3. Jackson Smith led off with a single, and Davion Lewis pounded a double to centerfield. Sasser slammed a double to centerfield that scored Jackson Smith and Davion Lewis.

Hatcher belted a single, and Colton Daly walked. Zack Sholar pounded a double to left-centerfield that scored Sasser and Hatcher.

An opposite-field bases-loaded double that dotted the foulline was the key play in West Robeson’s 5-run fifth inning.

Mason Smith finished 2-2 at the plate with a run batted in for Elizabethtown. Sasser batted 2-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Bostic delivered a 2-run double and scored a run. Sholar also drove in 2 runs with a double.

Davion Lewis doubled and scored a run. Tyler Lewis, Jackson Smith, Hatcher and Elks connected for one hit each. Hatcher scored 2 runs, and Tyler Lewis and Jackson Smith scored one run each. Elks drove in a run.

Tyler Lewis started on the mound for Elizabethtown and was followed to the hill by Jackson Smith, Davion Lewis and C. J. McCracken.

Elizabethtown will play West Robeson National Sunday at 2 p.m.
