ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown slugged 3 home runs and exploded for ten runs in the sixth inning to break open a 16-2 victory Sunday over Red Springs in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Tournament.

Elizabethtown advances to Monday’s semi-final game at 6 p.m. against West Robeson American.

Garrett Melvin led off with a walk, and Freddy Wooten reached base on an error to begin the Elizabethtown first. Tyler Hill and Ty Mathis drew walks as Melvin scored, and Victor Campbell knocked in Wooten with a single.

Melvin was hit by a pitch to start the Elizabethtown third inning. Wooten walked, and Raymond Autry blasted a 3-run home run that scored Melvin and Wooten and stretched the Elizabethtown lead to 5-1.

Mathis slammed a fourth inning double, and Melvin drove him in to push the lead to 6-1.

Campbell cracked a single to start the Elizabethtown sixth inning. Evan Pait belted a single, and Melvin drove in Campbell with a single. Coleman Tatum hammered a 2-run double that scored Pait and Melvin.

Wooten smashed a double that plated Coleman Tatum. Autry swatted a single that scored Wooten. Hill forced Autry at second, but Mathis crushed a triple that scored Hill. Campbell delivered his second single of the inning that scored Mathis.

Garrison Tatum walloped a 2-run homer that scored Campbell, and Chase Starkloff slugged a home run to cap the scoring.

Campbell batted 3-4 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Mathis finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, a triple, an rbi and 2 runs scored. Autry was 2-3 with a home run, 4 rbi’s and a run scored.

Melvin batted 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 rbi’s. Wooten doubled home a run and scored 3 runs. Garrison Tatum clubbed the 2-run homer, and Starkloff clobbered the solo home run.

Coleman Tatum ripped the 2-run triple and scored a run. Pait singled and scored a run, and Hill scored a run.

For the second consecutive game, Elizabethtown pitchers struck out 12 batters in the game.

Coleman Tatum started on the mound for Elizabethtown and pitched the first 2 innings. Ty Mathis relieved in the third inning and pitched the next 2 innings, and Garrett Melvin finished up on the mound by pitching the final 2 innings.
