ELIZABETHTOWN – Tyler Bullard slugged a walk-off grand-slam home run over the centerfield fence Saturday that gave West Robeson National a 7-4 victory over Elizabethtown in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Majors Tournament.

Elizabethtown carried a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but a single, an error, a walk and a fielder’s choice produced one run. Jonathan Jacobs drove in another run with a double. After a walk and a strike-out, Bullard launched the 2-out game-winning blast.

West Robeson National scored a run in the second, before Elizabethtown rallied with 4 runs in the fourth inning.

Mahki Cromartie led off the fourth with a single, and Garrett Melvin hammered a double to right-centerfield that scored Cromartie. Freddy Wooten ripped a single to centerfield to drive in Melvin, and Wooten advanced on an error on the play.

Raymond Autry, Tyler Hill and Victor Campbell drew walks in the inning that scored Wooten and Autry for a 4-1 lead.

Wooten batted 2-3 with a run batted in and a run scored. Melvin and Campbell smashed doubles, and Cromartie and Evan Pait smacked singles. Melvin drove in a run, and Melvin, Cromartie and Autry scored runs.

Wooten started on the mound for Elizabethtown and struck out 7 batters in the first 3 innings. Elizabethtown pitching struck out 12 West Robeson hitters in the game.

Elizabethtown will play Red Springs at 4 p.m. Sunday in an elimination game.
