NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Lumberton All-Stars exploded for 7 runs in the second inning and cruised to a 16-3 victory over Mississippi Monday in the opening round of the Dixie Belles Softball World Series.

Lumberton advances to an 11 a.m. game Tuesday on Field 3 at the North Myrtle Beach Parks & Sports Complex against the winner of Monday’s Florida/Virginia game.

Morgan Britt hammered a triple to deep left-centerfield in the Lumberton first inning and scored on JaiLeana Deese’s grounder for a 1-0 lead.

Mississippi scored a tying run in the bottom of the first on a passed third strike with 2 outs.

Erin Maynor smacked a single to centerfield to start the Lumberton second. Katlyn Jones was hit by a pitch, and Kasey West beat out a bunt single to load the bases.

Maynor stole home for the go-ahead run, before Abby Dawson knocked in Jones and West with a single to centerfield. After Madison Collins walked, a throwing error on Morgan Hatchell’s grounder scored Abby Dawson and Collins.

Another throwing error on Britt’s grounder plated Hatchell, and after Deese walked, Carley Dawson drilled an infield hit off the second baseman that scored Britt for an 8-1 Lumberton lead.

Maynor laced a triple to the right-centerfield gap in the third inning and scored when Jones laid down a sacrifice bunt that upped the count to 9-1.

Mississippi sandwiched 2 hits around a 2-out error to score a pair of unearned runs in the third.

Nakyra Mitchell beat out an infield hit to begin the fourth inning and sprinted to third base on a throwing error. Mitchell dashed home on a wild pitch for a 10-3 lead.

Walks to Deese and Maynor sandwiched around a pair of hit batters – Carley Dawson and Katie Kinlaw – produced a pair of Lumberton runs in the fifth. Deese and Carley Dawson scored the runs on wild pitches that padded the lead to 12-3.

West walked, and Mitchell and Abby Dawson were both hit by pitches to load the bases in the Lumberton sixth. Conner Brisson belted a 2-run single to left-centerfield that scored West and Mitchell. Abby Dawson and Brisson both darted home on wild pitches for the final Lumbeton runs.

Hatchell struck out 7 batters in the first 2 innings for Lumberton to pick up the win. Katie Kinlaw relieved her in the third inning, and Collins worked the final 2 innings in the circle.

Maynor batted 2-2 with the triple and 2 runs scored. Britt tripled and scored twice. Abby Dawson and Brisson cracked 2-run singles and scored a run each.

Carley Dawson, West and Mitchell added one hit each. Carley Dawson and Jones drove in runs. West and Mitchell scored 2 runs each, and Carley Dawson, Jones, Hatchell, Collins, Deese and Kinlaw scored one run each.

Abby Dawson is a rising junior at West Bladen High, while Carley Dawson and Brisson are both rising sophomores at West Bladen.
