Chace Butler and Cade Allen slugged back-to-back home runs in the 3rd inning as the BlueClaws built a 13-1 lead en route to a 13-8 victory over the RedBirds.
Butler cracked a single, and Allen was hit by a pitch to start the game, and both raced home as Hunter Hester reached base on an error for a 2-0 BlueClaw lead.
Kewone Maynor, Tredon Scott and Justin Spaulding drew walks to begin the BlueClaw 2nd inning, and Butler was hit by a pitch to force home Maynor. Allen knocked in Scott and Spaulding with a single, Hester pounded a triple that scored Butler and Allen. Chason Harris walked, and Jonah Bryan hammered a triple that scored Harris. Bryan later scored as the lead grew to 9-0.
Caison Brixey reached on a fielder’s choice in the RedBird 2nd and scored the 1st RedBird run.
Scott walked to start the BlueClaw 3rd inning, before Butler and Allen blasted their back-to-back home runs. Hester belted a single, Harris reached on an error, and Nolan Tatum drove in Hester with a single.
Brody Caulder, Hunter Simmons Clayton Moore drew walks to start the RedBird 3rd inning, and Gunner Marsh ripped a single that scored Caulder and Simmons and trimmed the margin to 13-3.
Brixey laced a 1-out single in the RedBird 4th inning. Davion Brown, Andrew Musselwhite, Caulder, Simmons and Moore drew consecutive walks, and Nolan Sessoms was hit by a pitch. Brixey, Brown, Musselwhite, Caulder and Simmons scored runs in the inning.
Allen walloped the home run and batted 2-2 with 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Butler finished 2-3 at the plate with the home run, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Hester batted 2-3 with a triple, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Bryan tripled home a run and scored a run. Connor Smith and Tatum swatted singles, and Tatum drove in a run. Scott scored 2 runs, and Harris, Maynor and Spaulding scored 1 run each.
Marsh smashed a single and knocked in 3 runs to lead the RedBird hitters. Brixey lined a single and scored 2 runs. Caulder, Moore and Sessoms had RBIs, and Caulder and Simmons scored 2 runs each. Brown and Musselwhite scored 1 run each.
Hester pitched the 1st 2 innings for the BlueClaws and allowed a run on no hits and 3 walks while striking out four. Harris pitched 1.2 innings and gave up 7 runs on 7 walks and 2 hits while striking out three. Allen came on in relief to hit a batter then end the game on a strikeout.
Marsh and Brixey pitched 2 innings each for the RedBirds.
The BlueClaws improved to 3-1 with the victory.
