ELIZABETHTOWN – Columbia exploded for 6 runs in the first inning and rolled to a 19-4 victory over the Royal team in Dixie Boys Baseball action Monday night.

Tyler Hill, Ayden Piland, Alex Brisson and Tyler Johnson belted hits and scored runs to spark the Columbia first inning rally.

The Columbia lead grew to 8-1 before Royal rallied for 3 runs in the fifth to slice the margin to 8-4. However Columbia pulled away with 4 runs in the sixth and 7 more runs in the final inning.

Hill and Piland both batted 4-4 and scored 3 runs each. Hill slugged an inside-the-park home run to begin the Columbia sixth inning. Brisson finished with a 3-4 game at the plate and scored twice.

Mahki Cromartie batted 2-3 and scored 3 runs for the winners. Tyler Johnson blasted a home run in the fourth inning and finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Teammate Ahmad Powell batted 2-4 .

Chase Starkloff, Ryan Johnson, Walker Ward, Tucker Carroll, Kory Smith and Jordan Bryan connected for one hit each for Columbia. Starkloff scored 2 runs, and Ward, Carroll, Smith and Bryan scored one run each.

Nathan Howell batted 2-2 with a run scored to lead the Royal team. Coleman Tatum slammed a double and scored a run. Teammates Nyquan Richardson, Will and Zack Williams added one hit each. Raymond Autry and Destin Montgomery scored one run each for Royal.

Cromatie pitched the first 2 scoreless, hitless innings for Columbia, striking out one and walking one. Brisson worked the next 2 innings on the hill and allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 2 batters.

Ward relieved and pitched the next 2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out one. Smith worked a scoreless, hitless seventh inning but hit a batter.

The Columbia team improved to 2-0 with the victory.
