Zach Sholar and Davion Lewis combined to pitch a 2-hitter and strike-out 13 batters, and their GreenJackets scored 7 runs in the final 2 innings to defeat the RedBirds 8-1 in the opening game of the Dixie Boys Baseball season.

Sholar pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, struck out 4 and allowed 2 walks and a hit. Lewis relieved with 2 runners on base in the 3rd inning and worked the final 3.2 innings, striking out 9 and giving up an unearned run on a hit and 3 walks.

Hunter Hester and Claxton Tatum teamed up to strike-out 14 batters for the RedBirds but gave up 7 hits and 8 walks.

The GreenJackets broke a scoreless tie with a 4th inning run. Seth Adams drew a lead-off walk, but was forced out at 2nd base by Torrean Cogdell who stole 2nd base and eventually scored on an error.

The Red Birds answered in the bottom of the inning. Tatum reached base on an error and circled the bases on a wild pitch, a stolen base and a passed ball to tie the score 1-1.

Colton Daly drew a lead-off walk in the GreenJacket 5th inning, and Isaiah Lee was safe on an error. Kewone Maynor laced a single to center field, and C. J. McCracken yanked a single to left as Daly and Lee scored to put the GreenJackets up 3-1.

Tyler Gooden, Adams and Sholar drew walks to begin the GreenJacket 6th inning. Lewis swatted a single to right field that scored Gooden and Adams. Daly walked, and Lee ripped a single to left as Sholar and Lewis scored. Daly scored on a wild pitch as the lead grew to 8-1.

Maynor batted a perfect 2-for-2 with a run batted in to lead the GreenJacket hitters. Lewis finished 2-for-3 at the plate with the run scored and 2 RBIs. Lee cracked the 2-run single, and Jaxon Hair and McCracken cracked 1 hit each. McCracken also picked up an RBI.

Hunter Simmons slammed a double to center field to begin the RedBirds 3rd inning. Two walks loaded the bases, but Lewis ended the threat with a strike-out. Finesse Shipman hammered a 1-out triple to right field in the RedBirds 5th inning. Again 2 walks loaded the bases, but Lewis fanned another batter to end the inning.
