ELIZABETHTOWN – Claxton Tatum walked and scored the deciding run in the top of the 4th inning as the Rays edged the Yard Goats 8-7 in Dixie Boys Baseball action Friday night.

Rex Register was hit by a pitch, and Tatum walked with 1 out in the 4th. Noah German’s grounder forced out Register, but Tatum scored the go-ahead run with 2 out.

The Yard Goats threatened in the bottom of the inning with 2 walks sandwiched around Ryker Strickland’s double, but a potential tying run was thrown out at the plate.

Both teams scored runs in the 1st inning. Register walked and scored as Hutchens Glenn reached base on an error for the Rays.

Drake Gause led off the Yard Goat 1st with a single to center field, and JaDarius McArthur and Brady Marlowe drew walks. Gause scored the tying run.

Dylan McLaurin, Cameron Thompson, Thomas Stevens, Jordan King and Register all drew walks in the Rays’ 2nd inning. Tatum reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Noah German belted a single to left. McLaurin, Thompson, Stevens, King, Register and Tatum all scored to put the Rays up 7-1.

The Yard Goats answered in the 3rd inning. Jayden Bethea smashed a double to centerfield, and Ryne Priest yanked a single to left. Gause and Marlowe drew walks, and Gunner Lewis and McArthur slammed doubles. Bethea, Priest, Gause, Lewis, McArthur and Marlowe all scored to tie the score 7-7.

Strickland batted 2-for-2 with a double to lead the Yard Goat hitters. Lewis, McArthur and Bethea walloped doubles, and Gause, Hunter Wood and Priest connected for 1 hit each.

German’s single accounted for the only hit for the Rays who capitalized on 8 walks and a hit batter.
