ELIZABETHTOWN – Fox Sutton stole home with the winning run and lifted the Tar Heels to a 7-6 Dixie Boys Baseball victory over the Rays Saturday at Bladen County Park.

With the time limit having expired in the bottom of the 6th inning, Sutton reached base on a 1-out error then stole 3rd base and stole home 1-out later.

The Rays had grabbed an early lead when Rex Register led off the game with a single, and scored when Noah German cracked a 1-out single.

Sutton smacked a 2-out single in the bottom of the 1st inning, and Jaxon Hair knocked him in with a double to tie the game 1-1.

The Rays exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 2nd. Cameron Thompson and Jordan King drew walks and Thomas S. was hit by a pitch. Register pounded a double, Greylon Robinson reached base on an error, and German belted a single. Thompson, Thomas S., King, Register and German all scored.

Demarius Guoins reached base on an error and raced home with a Tar Heels run when Dawson Edwards laced a single in the 3rd inning. Jamari Adams reached base on an error in the Tar Heels 4th inning, and Sutton and Hair smashed singles. Adams scored to trim the Rays lead to 6-3.

Jayden Byrd and Jackson Phillips reached base on errors in the Tar Heels 5th inning. Guoins ripped a single, and Edwards and Malaki M. drew walks. Byrd, Guoins and Phillips all scored to tie the score 6-6.

Sutton finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored, and Hair batted 2-for-3 with a double. Guoins, Edwards and Adams added 1 hit each for the Tar Heels. Guoins scored twice, and Phillips and Adams scored runs.

German batted 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Rays. Register finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and 2 runs scored. Thompson, King and Thomas S. scored runs.

Omar Powell started on the mound for the Tar Heels and pitched 2 innings, striking out 3 batters. C.J. McCracken pitched a scoreless, hitless 4 innings in relief and struck out 10 batters.

German started and pitched 4 innings for the Rays striking out 8. Robinson relieved in the 5th inning and Hutchens Glenn struck out 2 in relief in the 6th inning.
