West Bladen’s Knights swept a Dixie Pre-Majors baseball double-header at West Brunswick Friday night by scores of 5-1 and 11-7.

Juniors Jeremy Hunt and Donald McCullum belted singles to ignite a 3-run West Bladen first inning in Game 1. Junior Chandler Lennon reached base on a fielder’s choice, and after a walk to freshman Scott Bowen, catcher Brandon Carson’s ground-out plated Hunt. McCullum and Lennon dashed home on wild pitches.

Bowen hammered a third-inning double that plated Lennon who had walked. Carson beat out an infield hit, and junior Ray Jones knocked in Bowen with a single.

Hunt pitched the first 3 innings for the Knights and struck out six. Bowen worked a perfect 2 innings in relief and struck out one.

Bowen’s run-scoring double led the West Bladen hitters. Hunt, McCullum, Lennon, Carson and Jones added a single each. Carson and Jones also had one run batted in each.

The Knights jumped in front with 4 first-inning runs in the nightcap. Bowen cracked a single, and sophomore Trent West and Lennon drew walks. Bowen darted home on a wild pitch, and Jones ripped a 2-run double to left-centerfield.

West Bladen exploded for 7 more runs in the third to take an 11-2 lead. West slammed a double to start the inning, and Lennon smacked an rbi single to score West. Jones reached on an error, and sophomore Hunter Pait walked.

Freshman Jarrett Williams’ fielder’s choice brought home Lennon, and junior Seth Britt laced a 2-run single. Hunt followed with a single and an error on the play scored Britt.

McCullum walked, Bowen reached base on an error, and West swatted an rbi single.

The Trojans capitalized on an error and a couple of walks to mount a 5-run rally in the fourth. However Knight second-baseman Jonathan Ashworth snared a line drive to end the inning.

Williams started on the mound and pitched into the fourth inning for the Knights to pick up the win. Williams struck out three. Jones relieved Williams and struck out one, before giving way to Bowen who finished the inning. Bowen worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning to close out the win with one strike-out.

West batted a perfect 2-2 with a double and an rbi to lead the Knight hitters. Jones lined the 2-run double, and McCullum crushed a triple. Britt delivered 2 runs with his single. Lennon added an rbi single, and Hunt and Bowen connected for one hit each.

West Bladen improves to 2-1 with the sweep.
