East Bladen 12, East Columbus 8

Tanner Meares and Alex Coates combined for five hits and six runs scored to lead East Bladen to a 12-8 Dixie Pre-Majors Baseball victory at East Columbus Tuesday night.

Coates led off the second inning with a single and came around to score the first run of the game.

After the Gators tied the game in the home second, the Eagles regained the lead with a 4-run fourth. Meares belted a one-out single, and Ty Watkins was hit by a pitch.  One out later, Shy Pone walked, and Sincere Smith was hit by a pitch. All four of them came around to score runs.

The Gators pulled to within 5-4 in the bottom of the inning, but East Bladen upped the count to 7-4 in the fifth.

Coates and Meares smacked singles to start the inning, and both runners moved up on Watkins’ sacrifice bunt. Eric Chancey reached base on an error as both Coates and Meares scored.

A 5-run Eagle sixth inning stretched the lead to 12-4. Devan Stocks and Kyle Tatum drew walks to start the inning. Nikita Owens laced a single that scored Stocks and Tatum.

Coates walked, and Meares slammed a double that scored Owens. Chancey’s sacrifice plated Coates, and Smith reached on an error as Meares scored.

Coates pitched the first five innings to pick up the victory, and Smith came on to work the final two innings in relief.

Meares batted 3-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Coates finished 2-3 at the plate and also scored 3 runs. Owens singled and drove in 2 runs, and Tatum connected for the other East Bladen hit.

The Eagles improved to 4-1 with the victory and will host North Brunswick for a double-header Thursday at 5 p.m.
