Dixie Youth BaseballTABOR CITY – West Bladen led South Columbus 5-1 on Tuesday when lightning and rain suspended the baseball game in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The game, which is a semifinal contest in the league tournament, is scheduled to resume Wednesday at 7 p.m. at South Columbus High School. The winner of the game is scheduled to play the winner of the East Columbus-North Myrtle Beach game Thursday for the championship.

Trent West pitched three innings for the Knights, who entered the game with an 11-5 record during the summer season. The right-hander struck out three, walked three and allowed four hits. Three of those hits came in the first inning when South Columbus scored its lone run.

West Bladen scored in its first at-bat. Scott Bowen had a two-out infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on West’s single to left.

The Stallions tied in the bottom of the first. Jacob Gore led off with a double to left, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Landon Stocks, and scored on Noah Ward’s ground single down the right-field line.

West Bladen took control of the game with four runs in the third inning. Walks to Seth Britt and West put two runners aboard with two outs. Chandler Lennon blasted a double over the right fielder’s head that scored Britt and courtesy runner Jonathan Ashworth. Donald McCullum crushed a ground rule double over the left field fence that scored Lennon. Ray Jones then popped a single to center that scored McCullum with the Knights’ fourth run of the inning.

The game was suspended after West Bladen was retired in the top of the fourth.
