ANDERSON, SC – Amelia, Virginia scored 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning and eliminated Bladen County 6-0 Tuesday in the Dixie Youth Baseball Majors Division 2 World Series.

Bladen County, the North Carolina state champions, completed World Series play with a 2-2 record and finished in the final four. West Duplin, the North Carolina state runners-up, was eliminated by Lunenburg, Virginia 3-2 Tuesday morning. The Virginia teams will play each other for the World Series championship Wednesday.

Four walks, 2 hits, an error and a hit batter produced the 5 Virginia runs in the 2nd inning. Bladen County just missed turning a pitcher-to-home to-first double play that would have ended the inning with the score only 2-0, but the runner was called safe at 1st on a bang-bang play. The next batter doubled home 2 runs. Amelia added a run in the 5th inning on 2 hits.

Cole Brisson batted 2-for-2 to lead the Bladen hitters. Drake Gause hammered a double to right-center field in the 3rd inning, and Ashton Davis belted a single to right-center field in the 4th inning.

Chase Bryan’s fielder’s choice forced Davis out at 2nd base in the 4th inning. Bryan advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Gauge King walked, but was caught stealing at 2nd base. A fly ball to right field ended the inning.

Cole Brisson lined a single to left to begin the 5th inning and advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch and Luke Bryant’s fielder’s choice. The Virginia pitcher then scooped up Sawyer King’s swinging bunt down the 3rd base line and tagged Brisson out.

Corben Chadwick started on the mound for Bladen County and pitched 1-plus innings allowing a run on 2 walks and a hit while striking out one. Cole Brisson pitched 0.2 innings of relief and gave up 4 runs on 3 walks and 2 hits. Davis relieved and worked the final 4.1 innings allowing a run on 3 hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out nine batters.
