PEMBROKE – T. Garces tripled home the tying runs then scored the go-ahead run to rally Topsail to a 7-6 victory over Elizabethtown in an elimination game Sunday in the North Carolina Dixie Youth Baseball Majors State Tournament.

Elizabethtown rallied for 6 runs in the top of the 5th inning to take a 6-4 lead, before an error and F. Schoenwiesnar’s single preceded Garces’ blast to right-center field that tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Garces scored the go-ahead run on N. George’s sacrifice fly.

Greylon Robinson drew a 1-out walk, and Owen Hall belted a single in the Elizabethtown 6th inning. Both runners stole a base, but the next 2 batters were retired to end the game.

Robinson walked and scored the 1st Elizabethtown run in the 5th inning when Hall smacked a single. Lakota Schmale ripped a double that scored Hall then stole a base. Isaiah Lloyd and Landon Pusey drew walks, and Schmale raced home with another Elizabethtown run.

Stryker Pait knocked in Lloyd with a single, and Chandler Wall walloped a double that plated Pusey and Pait and vaulted Elizabethtown into a 6-4 lead.

Wall smashed 2 doubles and finished 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Pait batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Hall was also 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Schmale smoked the RBI double and scored a run. Robinson walked twice and scored a run. Lloyd and Pusey both drew walks and scored runs.

Eli Woodell pitched a complete game 7-hitter and struck out 2 batters for Elizabethtown.

Aaron Logan batted 2-for-2 and scored a run to lead the Topsail hitters. Schoenwiesnar finished 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Garces slugged the 2-run triple and scored a run.
