RALEIGH – A vanload of donations left the DMV Headquarters parking lot this morning filled with non-perishable relief items requested by Bladen and Robeson county flood victims.
The Division’s License & Theft Bureau staff helped load donations brought in by DMV employees. The van pulled out of the New Bern Avenue parking lot at 10 a.m., headed for Bladen County and from there, to Lumberton.
Van drivers Christopher Joyner and Joel Little planned to make their first stop at the DMV Customer Contact Center in Elizabethtown. Many of the center’s 125 employees live in flooded areas including Bladen, Robeson, Columbus, Pender, Sampson and Cumberland counties. Affected staff members have endured prolonged power outages, evacuations, flooding and, in some cases, the loss of their homes, according to Customer Contact Center Manager Renee Summerlin.
DMV employees plan to make another collection of relief items next week for other impacted counties.
