The Christian Women’s Job Corps of Bladen County began services to women who questioned their worth, their life, their purpose, in May of 2017. In that short amount of time many women have sought solace with the mentors that have been available to talk, to cry, and, more importantly, to teach survival skills to these women who are struggling.

Life is a struggle, everyone has different dreams and everyone has different problems that sometimes make them stumble and other times completely stop them in their tracks. For women, it is important that there is a source of influence that allows them to open up about their fears, their failures, and is there to celebrate their accomplishments. The mentors at Christian Women’s Job Corps of Bladen County are serving their community and their God in just this way.

“God has a purpose for each of us. Life is not easy, life is not fair, but God always has a plan for us, to make us better, to equip us to serve him” says Jennifer Carter, a mentor with the Christian Women’s Job Corp of Bladen County.

In our lives we often question where God is and why he allows bad things to happen to good people. From personal experience this question is asked almost daily for those who are struggling with pain, addiction, loss and the million other horrific struggles we can encounter throughout our lives. Isaiah 41:10 reads “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will hold you up with my righteous right hand.” The Bible does not tell us that God will take away the pain, the addiction, the losses that we experience, but the Bible does tell us that God will walk with us, he will be our strength, our comfort, and that he, God, will hold us up.

For many God is unimaginable. God cannot be seen with physical sight. God cannot be felt with physical touch, but God is present and he is active in the lives of all that seek him. God works through people, people like the mentors available at the Christian Women’s Job Corps of Bladen County. This group cannot deliver you from the world but they can share God’s word, they can be there when you need someone to listen, and they can help you to become a survivor!

Bible study is available to all women on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at 509 S. Cypress Street in Elizabethtown. The office is open Mondays from 2 p.m. until after the Bible study, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays by appointment. The office hours do not limit the mentorship available; at any time you can call and speak with a mentor by calling 910-734-9231 or 910-733-5497. This organization offers “a hand up, not a hand out”.

To be a survivor in life you have to make hard choices, important choices. Salvation is the most important choice we are given. When you need a “hand up,” consider making contact with this organization, they can help equip each and every one of us to not just to make choices but to make good choices that will lead us to a life that is beautiful even in the midst of all of the “ugly.”
