Spread the love

No one asked for a pandemic to change our lives this Spring.  No one asked to be unable to work, and no one wanted the uncertainty of how long they must stretch their money and their food.

Local nonprofit A Shelter Friend (ASF) is always there for the animals of Bladen County.   For over 12 years ASF has worked closely with the Bladen Animal Shelter to save the lives of dogs and cats through rescue or providing veterinary care, along with organizing and administering a Spay/Neuter Program for the pets of low-income residents.

A Shelter Friend has stepped up once again during the Covid-19 Crisis.  ASF does not want families struggling with the loss of income to worry about filling their dog or cat’s bowl and their supporters feel the same.  Generous donations from across the country have allowed ASF to purchase pet food for distribution to help those who have been affected financially by Covid-19.

Two free Petfood Distribution Days have already been held at the Paul Sessoms Building in Elizabethtown.  10 masked volunteers have greeted 111 pet owners and provided pet food for 357 dogs and 209 cats.  An extra boost came from Bladen Feed & Garden Center which made a major contribution this week.  A Shelter Friend asks the community to support this caring local small business.

A Shelter Friend’s next Free Petfood Distribution Day will be on Tuesday, May 5th from 12- 2:00 at the Paul Sessom’s Building, 108 S. Cypress, Elizabethtown.  Pet owners are asked to wear a face-covering and remain in their vehicle.  Volunteers will ask about your pets and your need.

If you are okay and your income has not changed please leave the free food for others who have a true need!  Call 910-645-2297 and leave a message if you have questions.

Low-income Bladen County residents who want to get their pets spayed or neutered at A Shelter Friend’s monthly clinic can call 910-645-2297 for information and sign-up
