DublinScoutHutThe Dublin Scout Hut has received more donations towards the replacement of the roof. A recent donation by Dublin businessman and Town Council member Jeff Smith and his wife, Holly, helped the Boy Scout Troop 622 reach their goal to affect much needed repairs to the roof on the Scout Hut.

Assistant Scout Leader Tony Parnell said Smith told the Scout Troop if they got close to achieving their goal he would make up the difference. Other contributors included Dublin Town Councilman David Hursey and Lisa Bryan and he said many of the local residents of Dublin have also made contributions.

He said the materials for the roof repairs have been ordered and the Scouts expect to begin making repairs within the next week or so.

“People really stepped up and helped us out,” said Parnell. He added that the Scout Troop is still receiving donations from the community.

Parnell said that to his knowledge, once completed, this will be third roof the Scout Hut has had since its construction in 1951.

“We’ve had a lot of community support for this and we thank them,” said Parnell.

The troop recently held a barbecue plate fundraiser and Parnell said the community was very supportive. He said barbecue plates were delivered to businesses in Dublin and Elizabethtown on Friday, April 29, and folks also purchased plates at the Scout Hut on Saturday, April 30.
