Doris Dowless Monroe, age 85, of Lumberton, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Wesley Pines Retirement Center in Lumberton. She was born May 12, 1933 in Bladen County to the late William Rich Dowless and the late Bessie King Dowless. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Neil Monroe; a daughter, Marla June Monroe; and her siblings: Louise Moore, Evelyn Gooden, Ethel Carroll, Elmer Dowless, and Woodie Dowless.

 She is survived by two daughters: Malissa Allen and husband Donald of Lumberton and Teresa Wiles and husband John of Council; three grandchildren: Wingate Grimes and wife Maria of Holly Springs, Cindy Grimes of Wilmington, and Marla Allen of Lumberton; two great-grandchildren: Brinley Mercer and Isabella Stoffel; a brother-in-law, George Monroe of Tar Heel; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

  The family will receive friends prior to the funeral on Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Love Grove Baptist Church, 50 Main Street in Tar Heel. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM with Wayne Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Singletary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Love Grove Baptist Church, PO Box 351, Tar Heel, NC  28392 or to NC Stroke Association, Piedmont Plaza 2, Ward A. Riley Ultrasound Center, 2000 West First Street, Suite 504, Winston-Salem, NC.
