Sales and Fireworks help ring in the Independence Day holiday

By Charlotte Smith

White Lake and Elizabethtown have been busier than usual the past month. Mildred Jackson with the Christian Book Store on Broad Street in Elizabethtown sent in a photo of some of her out of town customers.

“The Salinas Family from Winston Salem, NC came in my store today,” Ms. Jackson said last Saturday. She said the out of town visitors commented on how friendly everyone was toward them during their time in Bladen County.

“It made me feel wonderful,” Ms. Jackson added, “Whatever Bladen County is doing, don’t stop.”

To kickoff the Independence Day holiday the downtown merchants will hold their annual Downtown July 4th Sidewalk Sale starting on Friday, July 28 and the sales will last through Saturday, July 6, according to Dawn Maynard with the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

Locals and visitors alike can look forward to the annual fireworks show as well. The fireworks show is held at Goldston’s Beach in White Lake on Thursday, July 4th around dark.
