Longtime Bladen County Commissioner Dr. Delilah Blanks was honored during the recent NC Association of County Commissioners annual meeting in Durham. Dr. Blanks was inducted into the NCACC Hall of Fame.

Also named to the 2017 Hall of Fame were David Thompson, who is a former manager of NCACC, and Danny Wright of Vance County. Blanks and Wright are both Past Presidents of the NCACC.

Blanks served as Bladen County Commissioner for 26 years having first been elected to the board in 1988. She opted not to seek re-election in 2016 after completing her sixth term in office. For several years, she served as the only woman on the board. She was joined on the board for a almost a decade by the late Margaret Lewis-Moore who passed away in 2010.

“We are just thrilled for her (Dr. Blanks) and excited for her to receive this honor. She is very worthy of this honor,” said Kevin Leonard, Executive Director of the NCACC.

She will be joining a group of commissioners from around the state who have worked to advance local and county government, said Leonard. To be eligible for induction in the Hall of Fame, one must be active with the NCACC including serving on the Board of Directors of the NCACC. The individual must also have made significant contributions to their local and county government through service at the state or national level including leadership in the National Association of Counties.

“We are thrilled for her to be honored that way,” said Leonard.
