Southeastern Health (SeHealth) President and CEO Joann Anderson recently announced an administrative appointment. Joseph Roberts Jr., M.D., has been named vice president of clinical effectiveness and medical affairs for SeHealth.  He first joined SeHealth as an employee in November 2016 as medical director of Southeastern Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) hospitalist program after more than 20 years in private practice.

Dr. Roberts, a graduate of Davidson College, earned his medical degree from UNC Chapel Hill and completed his residency at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro in 1990. After his residency, Dr. Roberts spent three years in Oklahoma practicing medicine among the members of the Choctaw tribe.  He was affiliated with Lumber River Family Practice from 1995-2016 and has served as medical director for GlenFlora for 20 years and Community Hospice for 15 years. He has served as president of the SeHealth Medical Staff as well as a board member for the organization.

“My goal is to improve the quality of health care provided to the Southeastern Health service area,” said Dr. Roberts. “I have a long history with Southeastern Regional Medical Center and have developed many relationships both inside the organization and in the community of which I hope to incorporate into the future goals of the organization.  This is a very demanding and challenging position but I look forward to working with Joann and the current administrative team.”

He and his wife, Jamie, live in Pembroke. He has three children and two step children.
