roberts-093Joseph Roberts Jr., M.D., has joined Southeastern Health as medical director of Southeastern Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) hospitalist program after more than 20 years in private practice.

Dr. Roberts, a graduate of Davidson College, earned his medical degree from UNC Chapel Hill and completed his residency at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro in 1990. After his residency, Dr. Roberts spent three years in Oklahoma practicing medicine among the members of the Choctaw tribe.  He has been affiliated with Lumber River Family Practice since 1995 and has served as medical director for GlenFlora for 20 years and Community Hospice for 15 years. He has served as president of the SeHealth Medical Staff as well as a board member for the organization.

“My goal is to improve the quality of care provided by the hospitalist program and improve relationships with the community, community physicians and the hospital medical staff,” said Dr. Roberts. “I have a long history with Southeastern Regional Medical Center and have developed many relationships both inside the organization and in the community of which I hope to incorporate into the future goals of this program.  This will be a challenge and I am looking forward to a long relationship with the organization.”

SRMC’s hospitalist program was established in 2006. Their goal is to see that hospital patients get safe and excellent care, from admission through discharge. And they’re always available for patients and their families, even at night and on weekends and holidays. This means they can quickly respond to any emergency—and better yet, help prevent one too.
