The Bladen County Department Of Social Services Child Welfare Unit is making preparations for their annual Child Abuse Awareness event on Saturday, April 30. The event will begin with an Awareness Walk at 1 p.m. at San Jose Restaurant in Elizabethtown.

Child Welfare Unit Supervisor Jill Sampson said the walk will begin at San Jose and end at the Bladen County Courthouse. On the front lawn of the courthouse there will be Bounce houses, games, face painting, a nail salon for children and live entertainment.

“We’re also giving away some bicycles this year,” said Sampson.

She said there will also be goody bags for the children that attend and there will be a drawing for various items donated by different merchants within the county.

Sampson said that there is still time for folks to either set up a booth or to take part in the live entertainment.

“We need some more talent –singing, dancing, or other types of talent such as choirs,” said Sampson.

She said if your church has a youth group or choir that would like to take part, that is encouraged, too.

If you would like to take part in live entertainment or to set up a booth, contact Sampson at 910-862-6800 or by email at  jsampson@bladenco.org.

Another contest taking place as part of Child Abuse Awareness Month is a “Pinwheels for Prevention” contest. The subject of the contest is to create a pinwheel garden, take a photograph of your pinwheel garden and email it by April 15 to jsampson@bladenco.org.

There are also T-shirts marking the event still available for purchase. Short sleeved shirts are $12 each and long-sleeved T-shirts are $15.
