The engines were roaring once again at Dublin Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. It was the first of two scheduled practice sessions in preparation for the April 2 season opener.

“We have several big events this year,” said R.J. Bailey, who works with his parents, Shirley and Richard Bailey, to promote the track. “We’re trying to add a few better shows, a few bigger shows each year.”

The highlight of the season will take place May 14 when the Carolina RaceSaver Sprint Car Series makes its first appearance at Dublin.

“This area has been wanting a Sprint Car race for quite some time now, so (CRSCS promoter) Keith (Frye) and I made it happen.” said Richard Bailey in a news release on the track’s web site. “It’s a working man’s series, those guys run on a budget with those motors which makes for competitive racing and better racing for our fans.”

The Ultimate Super Late Model Series will return to the track affectionally known as the Rattlesnake at least twice and the South Eastern Open Wheel Dirt Modified Series also will have at least two races, R.J. Bailey said.

Races are scheduled each Saturday night, except July 2, through Oct. 15 at the 4/10th dirt oval.

For the fans, the facility is building a new pressbox which will include a climate-controlled VIP section.

“It should accommodate 75 to 100 seats, it will be heated and cooled, and behind glass,” R.J. Bailey said. “It will have a perfect view of the track so fans will be able to see all of the racing. Also, we’ll have MBH Productions on site, which is going to be videoing each week, except for April 23. The live feed will be fed down to the VIP section on flat screen TVs so fans will be able to see the action in person as well as on TV.”
