Russell Erwin won the race to the finish line Saturday night to claim the $1,600 top prize in Open Wheel Modifieds at Dublin Motor Speedway. Erwin, who started from the pole, held off Billy Workman Jr. and Eric Bentley to win. Erwin won the season-opening Late Model race at Dublin.
In Late Model, Shawn Sewell was declared the winner after Brian Strickland was disqualified for not accepting a protest. It was Sewell’s third win of the season at the track dubbed the Rattlesnake and earned him $1,500. Sewell started the race from the pole position and Strickland was on the outside of the front row. Strickland won the 25-lap race, but Sewell’s team protested the motor used in Strickland’s car. The disqualification moved Robbie Turner to second place and Dale Hammond to third in the official results.
In Pure Stock, Johnny Brown started on the pole and crossed the finish line first in his first race this season at Dublin. He earned $700. Devin Williamson placed second and Elvin Matthews was third in the 16-car field.
In Super Street, Jerry Johnson started from the pole and finished ahead of Chris Powers and Greg Spivey. Clarkton’s Billy Marsh placed fifth. It was Johnson’s third victory this season.
In U-Cars, C.J. Locklear was the winner with Cameron Parks in second and Craig Schield in third.
There were 60 cars at Dublin on Saturday for the five divisions.
The next racing program at Dublin is scheduled Saturday, May 9.
