The members of Boy Scout Troop 622 in Dublin have a new accomplishment in the repairs and renovations for their scout hut. The new roof has been installed on the Scout Hut and the next renovation project will be the floors, said Assistant Scout Master Tony Parnell.

“I’m excited. We’ve stopped all of the leaks,” said Parnell.

He said there is still some chinking left to do on the walls but the next major undertaking will be a renovation of the Scout Hut’s flooring.

Parnell said that the Troop has held fundraisers and received donations from the public to assist with the costs of roofing the Scout Hut.

Aside from the roofing project, Parnell said Troop 622 has four members who are attending summer camp this week and the entire Troop will attend camp next week. He said they will be working on their merit badges in preparation for pursuing their Eagle badges.

“We’re hoping by next fall to have some Eagle Scouts. They have come a long way. I’m proud of all of them,” said Parnell.

He also said the Boy Scouts are preparing to add a new program for Cub Scouting called the Lions. Parnell said the Lions will be designed for Kindergarten aged boys and only the Lakes District in the Cape Fear Council is kicking that off.

Parnell said that currently there are the Tigers, Wolves, Bears and Webelos.  He said that with the addition of the Lions, Boy Scouting can only benefit from the addition of the younger scouts.

“I think it will do nothing but increase the membership and get more boys interested in Scouting,” said Parnell.
