WHITEVILLE – Bladen County scored ten runs in the first two innings en route to a 10-5 victory over Columbus County Sunday night in an elimination game in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 AA (Coach-Pitch) Tournament.

Tyler Thurman led off the Bladen County first inning with a single, and Zee Pone reached base on an error. Thurman was retired on Corben Chadwick’s grounder. Brooks Carroll slapped a grounder past shortstop that scored Pone.

Joseph Burney’s fielder’s choice plated Chadwick, and Eli Woodell and Aidan Thompson cracked singles that scored Carroll. Jeremiah Bryan reached base on an error that scored Woodell for a 4-0 lead.

Keithan Russ and Rylan Bordeaux reached base on errors to begin the Bladen second inning. Thurman laced a single to right that scored Russ, and Pone ripped a double to left that scored Bordeaux and Thurman.

Chadwick smashed a double to centerfield that plated Pone. Carroll belted a single to left that scored Chadwick. Burney swatted a single to rightfield that scored Carroll and grew the lead to 10-0.

Columbus County scored two runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth but Bladen held on for the win.

Thurman batted 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Bladen hitters. Pone and Chadwick slugged doubles, and Carroll, Burney, Woodell and Thompson connected for one hit each. Pone, Chadwick and Carroll scored two runs each. Woodell, Russ and Bordeaux scored one run each.

Bladen County will play South Columbus Monday at 6 p.m.
