CERRO GORDO – Columbus County rode a 5-run 3rd inning to a 6-0 victory over Bladen County Monday night in an elimination game in the Diamond Youth Baseball District 2 Majors Tournament.

Will Allen and Tyquan Jones drew walks in the Bladen 3rd inning but were stranded on base. Tyler Thurman ripped a 1-out triple in the 4th inning. Keithan Russ and Joseph Burney drew walks, but the next 2 batters struck out to leave the bases loaded.

In the Bladen 5th inning, Trevaugn Shipman smacked a single, and Jones walked but they were left on base. Thurman laced a 1-out single in the 6th inning and led the Bladen hitters with a 2-for-3 game. Shipman’s single accounted for the only other Bladen hit.

Burney started on the mound for Bladen and allowed 6 runs on 3 hits, 4 walks and a hit batter while striking out 3 in 2.2 innings. Thurman pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless, hitless relief striking out 7 and walking 2.
