HALLSBORO – For the second consecutive game, South Columbus rallied late to defeat Bladen County 6-4 Tuesday night in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 Tournament.

Despite the loss Bladen County still received District 2’s third bid to the North Carolina DYB State Tournament that begins July 10th in Norwood.

Bladen County led 4-2 before South Columbus vaulted in front with 3 runs in the 5th inning and tacked on another run in the sixth.

Drake Gause ripped a 1-out single to leftfield in the 1st inning, and Tyler Thurman belted a single to right. One out later Gauge King knocked in Gause and Thurman with a single to center field.

After South tied the game with 2 runs in the 3rd inning, Sawyer King drew a 2-out walk in the home half of the third. Gause smacked a single to right-center, and Thurman drove in Sawyer King with a single to center that edged Bladen County ahead 3-2.

Gauge King led off the Bladen 4th with a single to center, and Dalton Ammons laced a single to right. Brooks Carroll’s grounder plated Gauge King and padded the Bladen lead to 4-2.

Thurman batted 2-for-2 with a run batted in and a run scored, and Gauge King also finished 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Gause batted 2-for-3 with a run scored. Ammons added 1 hit, Carroll had an RBI, and Sawyer King scored a run.

Ammons started on the mound for Bladen County and was relieved by Gauge King, Sawyer King and Corben Chadwick.

South Columbus advanced to play Whiteville National in Wednesday night’s district championship game.
