LUMBERTON –Lumberton Gold pulled away with a pair of 7-run innings en route to an 18-4 victory over Elizabethtown Monday night in the semi-finals of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 AA (Coach-Pitch) Tournament.

After Lumberton grabbed an early 2-0 lead, Elizabethtown rallied with three runs in the home half of the first. Drake Gause led off with a single, and Prince Powell knocked him in with a double. Consecutive singles by Gunner Lewis, Stryker Pait and Gauge King plated Powell and Gunner Lewis.

The Gold team tied the game with a run in the second inning then edged ahead 4-3 with a third inning run. The seven-run outbursts in the fourth and fifth innings stretched the lead to 18-3.

Jameel McKiver slammed a double to begin the Elizabethtown fifth inning and came around to score on a pair of fielder’s choices.

McKiver smashed a pair of doubles and scored a run to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Pait also batted 2-for-2, and Powell walloped a double and scored a run. Gause, Colt Lewis, Gunner Lewis and Gauge King connected for one hit each. Gause and Gunner Lewis scored one run each.

Elizabethtown was eliminated with the loss. Lumberton Gold advanced to Tuesday’s championship game against West Robeson American, a 22-12 winner over Fairmont.
