ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown defeated Lumberton Maroon 4-1 Saturday in the second round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 AAA (Minors) Tournament at Leinwand Park.

Easton Bostic, Tyler Eason and Jayce Hatcher combined to pitch the victory for Elizabethtown. Hatcher picked up the win in relief as Elizabethtown snapped a 1-1 tie late then tacked on another run in the sixth.

Elizabethtown grabbed a first-inning lead as Hatcher led off with a single and sprinted home on C. J. McCracken’s sacrifice fly. The Maroon team tied the score 1-1 with a second-inning run.

Hatcher started Elizabethtown’s winning fourth-inning rally with a single and raced home when Joshua Dawson blasted a triple. Claxton Tatum smacked a single that scored Dawson for a 3-1 lead.

Collin Cole drew a lead-off walk in the Elizabethtown fifth inning, and Brady Marlowe belted a single. Cole scored to pad the lead to 4-1.

Marlowe batted 2-for-2 to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Hatcher finished 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Dawson batted 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Tatum added one hit, and Cole scored a run.

Elizabethtown will play Fairmont, a 12-11 winner over West Robeson American, in a third round winners bracket game at 7 p.m. Sunday. In Saturday’s other game, Lumberton Gold eliminated Red Springs 17-7.
