Dixie Youth BaseballBrady Hollingsworth and Chase Starkloff combined to pitch a one-hitter that propelled Elizabethtown to a 13-0 win over Scotland County Sunday night in the second round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 Major League Tournament in Elizabethtown.

After two outs in the top of the first, Zack Meares walked and scored when Hollingsworth blasted a double. Raymond Autry knocked in Hollingsworth with a single.

Jacob Priest drew a walk and advanced on a passed ball.  Rasean McKoy reached on an error by the left fielder that allowed Autry and Priest to score. Victor Campbell drove in McKoy with a single that put Elizabethtown up 5-0 after one half inning.

Scotland County had one hit in the bottom of the first but the runner was thrown out attempting to steal second.

Greyson Clark walked and Garrett Melvin singled to start the Elizabethtown second inning.  A fielder’s choice by Makhi Cromartie advanced Clark to third.

Ethan Johnson laced a single that scored Clark, and Drew Sholar hammered a double that scored Cromartie and Johnson.  Meares reached base on an error by the shortstop that scored Sholar.  Autry reached base on an error by the third baseman that scored Meares.

Elizabethtown loaded the bases on a single by Priest and a walk to McKoy before Campbell drove in Autry with a single to extend the Elizabethtown lead to 11-0.

Hollingsworth struck out all three Scotland County batters in the bottom of the second inning.

Johnson and Meares reached base on walks in the top of the third.  Both runners later scored on passed balls to extend the lead to 13-0.

Starkloff relieved Hollingsworth in the bottom of the third inning.  Scotland County had one runner reach base on a walk but was thrown out attempting to steal second.

McKoy, Cromartie, and Johnson reached base for Elizabethtown in the top of the fourth but were not able to score.

Starkloff retired the three batters he faced in the bottom of the fourth inning to end the game.

Campbell knocked in 2 runs with 2 singles to lead the winners’ 8-hit attack. Sholar slugged the 2-run double and scored a run. Hollingsworth walloped the run-scoring double and scored a run.

Autry drove in a run with a single and scored twice. Johnson knocked in a run with a single and also scored twice. Priest singled and scored a run, and Melvin added a single.

Meares scored 3 runs, and McKoy, Cromartie and Clark scored one run each.

The Elizabethtown pitchers faced the minimum of 12 batters through four innings. Hollingsworth pitched 2 innings and allowed one hit. Starkloff pitched 2 hitless innings.

Elizabethtown will face West Robeson American Monday night at 8 p.m. in the winners bracket finals. West Robeson American has defeated Lumberton 16-1 and Fairmont 11-5.
