The early voting period for North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District race will end Friday, according to the Bladen County Board of Elections.

More than 1,100 people have cast ballots through Saturday, according to figures released by the Elections Board. Election Day is Sept. 10.

Candidates for the U.S. House seat are Democrat Dan McCready, Republican Dan Bishop, Green Party’s Allen Smith and Libertarian Jeff Scott.

The State Board of Elections is encouraging voting to case their ballot during the early voting period because of the uncertainty of the track and potential impact of Hurricane Dorian.

“We encourage everyone eligible to vote in the September contests to add a visit to an early voting site to your hurricane preparation checklist and cast their ballot while conditions are safe,” said Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the State Board of Elections. “We do not want Dorian to put a damper on turnout for these important elections.”

Early voting hours are:

Bladen County Board of Elections office, Cypress Street, Elizabethtown: 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Tar Heel Municipal Building, 14867 NC 87 West: 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Photo ID is not required in any election in 2019.

The 10-day total showed 1,139 votes recorded at Bladen County’s two early voting sites.

The special election was ordered after voting irregularities were discovered in November’s election. Republican Mark Harris defeated Democrat Dan McCready by about 900 votes, but the State Elections Board refused to certify the race because of an alleged absentee ballot collection scheme centered around Bladen County political operative McCrae Dowless. Harris is not running in the special election.

Here are the daily voting totals, according to the Board of Elections.

Wednesday, Aug. 21: 87
Thursday, Aug. 22: 123
Friday, Aug. 23: 118
Saturday, Aug. 24: 52
Monday, Aug. 26: 146
Tuesday, Aug. 27: 128
Wednesday, Aug. 28: 146
Thursday, Aug. 29: 119
Friday, Aug. 30: 145
Saturday, Aug. 31: 75

The 17-day early-voting period allows any registered voter to cast an absentee ballot in person at any early voting site in their county, says the State Board of Elections. Early voting also offers “same-day registration,” which allows individuals eligible to vote who aren’t yet registered in their county to register and vote at the same time.
