As the nation celebrates senior citizens with National Grandparent’s Day this weekend, a huge crowd gathered in East Arcadia to honor their elders with an annual banquet. The East Arcadia Senior Citizens Association held their fifteenth anniversary Senior Citizen’s Banquet Celebration at Pleasant Union Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, September 10th at 4 p.m.

Mr. Carlee Carter, President of the East Arcadia Senior Citizens Association, and Mayor of East Arcadia, Perry Blanks gave special greetings and welcomed the dapper crowd. Reverend Michael Ivery gave the blessing over the food.

Many town dignitaries were in attendance. Mrs. Pamela Graham was the Mistress of Ceremony and Ms. Rhonda Hall was the Hostess of the evening. Dr. Delilah Blanks, the Director of the event helped welcome everyone to the event as well.

Mr. Carlee Carter, President of the East Arcadia Senior Citizens Association and Mayor of East Arcadia, Perry Blanks gave special greetings and welcomed the dapper crowd.

Judge Pauline Hankins with the 13th Judicial District, was the guest speaker. Mrs. Annie Long, Vice President of the Association presented the honorary awards.

The banquet feast was catered by Cindy’s catering service with a delicious menu of baked chicken, ham, rice, green beans and more, topped off with several different cake choices.

Special comments and updates were given by House Representative, Mr. William Brisson, Bladen County Board of Commissioners Chairman, Mr. Russell Priest, Bladen County Board of Education Chairman, Mr. Wilbur Smith, Bladen Community College President, Dr. William Findt, Mrs. Demetrice Johnson-Jones, Principal of East Arcadia Elementry School and Mrs. Jan Maynor with the Lumber River Council of Governments.

Dr. Blanks gave some recognitions and special thanks. Reverend Dr. Q. Jimmel Williamson gave the benediction.

The annual banquet is held to raise funds for the local senior center. Area senior citizens enjoy meals, games and more at the center every week. The center also has a pantry of supplies for those in need in the community.
