ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Spencer Scott and sophmore Zach Meares teamed up to pitch a 3-hitter and strikeout 5 batters as East Bladen defeated West Bladen 5-2 Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference baseball action.

Scott worked 6 innings to pick up the win allowing a run on 3 hits while striking out 4 and walking one. Meares allowed an unearned run in the seventh inning striking out one and walking one.

Junior Dawson Bryan lined a single to centerfield in the Knight first inning. After a walk to junior Nolan Bryant, senior Jeremy Pait raked a single to left that scored Bryan for a 1-0 West Bladen lead.

The Eagles tied the game with an unearned run in the second inning. Meares reached second base on an error and scored on another error as Spencer Scott reached base.

East Bladen took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Senior Josh McKoy beat out an infield hit, advanced on a passed ball and scooted all the way home from second base on senior Greyson Heustess’ fielder’s choice.

Scott ripped a single to left to start the Eagle fifth inning. Senior Pierce Melvin beat out a bunt single, and Josh McKoy walked. Jay McKoy, the courtesy runner for Scott, darted home on a passed ball.

After Melvin was forced at the plate, sophmore Brady Hollingsworth drew a walk that forced home Josh McKoy. Meares lined a single to left that scored Pone for a 5-1 lead.

Junior Colby White reached second base on an error to begin the Knight seventh inning. Senior Shawn Oxendine walked, and junior Braylon Williamson was hit by a pitch. White scored on a passed ball, but Logan West’s fly ball was caught by Heustess to end the game.

Meares, Scott, Melvin and Josh McKoy led the Eagle hitters with one hit each. Hollingsworth, Meares and Heustess drove in runs. Josh McKoy scored 2 runs, and Jay McKoy, Meares and Pone scored one run each.

Jeremy Pait batted 2-3 with a run batted in to lead the Knight hitters. Bryan singled and scored a run, and White scored a run.

White started and pitched 4.1 innings allowing 5 runs – 3 earned – on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out one. Logan West relieved and worked 1.2 scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles improved to 7-1 in the TRC and 9-1 overall and will travel to Whiteville for a key conference showdown Friday night. West Bladen will host Fairmont Friday night.
