East Bladen’s Eagles have been named the WWAY-TV3 Team of the Week after riding a stellar defensive effort to their third consecutive victory Friday night – 14-6 over at Whiteville.
The Eagle offense was stopped 5 times inside the Whiteville 22 yardline – twice at the one – in the first half, but the defense stymied the Wolfpack offense. Whiteville managed only 5 first downs in the game – one in the first half – and only 120 total yards.
The Eagles mounted two long touchdown drives on their first two possessions of the second half capped by touchdowns from Xavia McDowell and James Higgins. East Bladen held a 337-120 edge in total yards and a 31-17 edge in time of possession.
The Eagles who are ranked No. 10 in the Class 2A State AP poll and No. 9 in the latest NC Preps Class 2A rankings will host Three Rivers Conference rival South Columbus Friday night.
