ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson fired in 21 points Wednesday night to lead East Bladen to a 45-36 girls basketball victory over Wallace-Rose Hill in the East Bladen Holiday Classic.

Moore-Peterson threw in a pair of first quarter baskets, sophmore center Lorna Mendell dropped in a basket and sophmore Patience Ward hit a free throw for an early 7-2 East Bladen lead.

The Lady Bulldogs rallied with an 8-2 run of their own to take a 10-9 lead at the quarter break. However Lady Eagle senior Shardajah Brown bombed in a pair of 3-point shots, and junior Anna Kate White popped in a jumper to put East up 17-14 at the half.

Ward and Moore-Peterson pumped in baskets to keep the Lady Eagles ahead 21-20 early in the second half, before a trio of free throws by Moore-Peterson, two free throws by junior Erica McKoy and a basket by Ward stretched the lead to 28-21 at the quarter break.

Moore-Peterson poured in 13 points in the final period sinking 9 free throws and a pair of baskets to keep the Lady Eagles on top. Brown knocked down her third 3-point shot of the game, and McKoy added a bucket.

Brown just missed a double-double with 9 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Ward netted 5 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for the winners.

The Lady Eagles played without junior Ashley Hardin who will miss 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury. Hardin is the team’s second-leading rebounder (6 per game) and leader in assists (3.2).

Senior Sara Coston topped the Wallace-Rose Hill scoring with 12 points, and senior guard Jordan Maynor followed with 9 points.

East Bladen, now 8-1 on the season, will play North Brunswick Thursday night at 6:30 in the final game of the Holiday Classic.
