ELIZABETHTOWN- Lahkeyd Lesane, Xavia McDowell and Davonta McIver who were a huge part of East Bladen’s football success over the past few seasons committed together Monday to continue their football career at Louisburg College.

“It is an advantage for them to go together like that,” said Eagle Coach Robby Priest. “Louisburg is a good fit, and I hope they will push each other on and off the field.”

This past season Lesane, McDowell and McIver led the Eagles to a 12-2 record, a share of the Three Rivers Conference championship and into the third round of the state Class 2A play-offs.

Lesane, a 6-1, 300-pounder, is being recruited for a spot on either the offensive or defensive line. He is the son of Corey Lesane and Kadetra Lennon and is looking forward for the opportunity to play at Louisburg.

McDowell at 6-foot, 250-pounds played fullback and linebacker at East Bladen but is expected to play defensive line in college. “I will play where they put me,” said McDowell.

McDowell, the son of Valencia Porter and Dwayne McDowell, plans to major in sports medicine/management/training and is looking forward to getting a good education.

McIver, a 6-1, 211-pounder, is excited about the opportunity and hopes to get a chance to play linebacker at Louisburg but may be slated for a defensive end slot. His mom is Degee McIver.

“You never know what hard work can bring you, and you never know what young kids will become,” said East Bladen principal Dr. Jason Wray. “But these three young men are blessed football players.”

Lesane, McDowell and McIver are following in the footsteps of Farrell and Larrell Murchison, former East Bladen football stars who played at Louisburg.

“It worked out for Farrell and Larrell,” said Coach Priest. “I really trust Coach (Trevor) Highfield. It is a good place for them to focus on school and football.”

Priest pointed out that with all the attention that Larrell Murchison received from schools like Houston, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia Kentucky and others, that “the big schools know where Louisburg is at and how to get there.”
