RED SPRINGS – Senior A. J. Smith and sophmore Cate DeVane were repeat winners for East Bladen Wednesday in a Three Rivers Conference cross country meet against Red Springs and St. Pauls.

Smith has won all 3 of East Bladen’s boys races this season and was clocked in 18 minutes 7 seconds Wednesday. After finishing second in East Bladen’s season opener, DeVane has won the last 2 girls races. She posted a personal best of 25:24 Wednesday. Sydney Gardner placed 5th for the Lady Eagles with a time of 35:03.

“We’ve been working hard,” said Eagle Coach Wilson Bolden. “A.J.’s been running at least 10 miles a day. He is in the best shape he has been in. Cate has come a long way and she is outstanding. Sydney is doing a phenomenal job.”

Bolden added, “I don’t have my whole team because of COVID, but I’m truly blessed by the team I have. I appreciate the support of the fans and Dr. (Jason) Wray too. We are going to continue to state to see what we’ve got.”

Dr. Wray said, “This is the strongest team ever. We are undefeated. That’s an accomplishment.”

The Eagles will travel to Red Springs Wednesday for their next meet.
