East Bladen star Sincere ‘Skippy” Smith was drafted Wednesday afternoon in the 32nd Round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the New York Yankees.

Smith played shortstop and batted lead-off for an Eagle team that finished with a 10-8 Three Rivers Conference record and 11-10 overall mark this season. Smith was a 3-sport star at East Bladen playing football and basketball as well as baseball.

Coach Robby Priest was expecting Smith to be drafted as several teams sent scouts to East Bladen during the final weeks of the season.

No details are available yet as to when Smith will report to the Yankees, but he will probably be sent to the Yankees’ facility in Tampa, Florida, for rookie camp and eventually rookie league baseball.

Smith is the second Eagle baseball player to be drafted in recent years by a Major League team. Saquan Johnson was drafted in the 28th round by the Texas Rangers and played four years of minor league baseball in Arizona and Washington state.
