
East Bladen senior guard NeNe Ward and head coach Patty Evers lead the All-Waccamaw Conference girls’ basketball team.
Ward was named the Player of the Year and Evers was selected Coach of the Year, it was announced Monday morning.
Ward averaged 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 5.5 steals per game in helping the Eagles to a 26-4 record and a runner-up finish in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A tournament.
Evers guided East Bladen to the conference championship and a fifth Eastern Regional title. She has won more than 600 games in her career that began in 1995 at the former Tar Heel High School.
Joining Ward on the all-conference girls’ team were teammates Lalia Smith and Ariel Cromartie. Honorable mention went to Cabria Baldwin and Niyah Wooten.
Smith, a senior, averaged 16 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.9 steals per game. Cromartie, a junior, averaged 10.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game.
The boys’ basketball all-conference team included East Bladen’s Dominick Collins and Sherman Long. Honorable mention went to Kewone Maynor. The Eagles had an 8-15 record
East Columbus’ Jaden Troy was named boys’ basketball Player of the Year while Whiteville’s Quamain Rose and Trask’s Rodney Orr shared Coach of the Year honors.
The all-conference cheerleading squad included East Bladen Kaniyah Hairston and Trinity Kemp.
